Inspiration Comes in Many Forms

If you are a quilter, you’ll know what I’m talking about: I see patterns everywhere. I see them on bathroom floors, on brick walls, on reflected shadows, on textures of every kind. Since I began to quilt, I cannot see the world in the same way as before. This can be a good thing, but also a hindrance, sometimes.

One of my hobbies is collecting postcards. I’m always picking them up, free or otherwise. Recently I came across this little booklet of postcards depicting works by Kandinsky, a modernist painter from the Bauhaus movement, that I found particularly interesting and attractive; I love the colors and shapes of these paintings. Most of all, I really like the fact that I can visualize some wonderful quilting patterns emerging.

I would absolutely love to be able to create a quilt inspired by these designs. My next project? We’ll see…

Perhaps one day in a not too distant future I’ll be posting the end result here!
