This post may come a bit late in the day, but I think the season justifies a bit of slacking, don’t you think? I just wanted to share what I’ve been working on these past few days. It is a hand project, because my sewing room also serves as a guest room and presently I have guests staying for the holidays, so planning ahead and not wanting to be left without something to sew, I decided to work on this hexie little quilt.
I must say these holidays haven’t been without a bit of stress–aren’t they all? However, this year’s stress is of a much different nature than the usual holiday-related happenings. For starters, my son and his wife are in Ukraine trying to adopt a child (they already adopted one last year–a beautiful girl who is the pride and joy of us all), so they are spending the holidays over there, as they have to adhere to the timetable set up by the adoption process, which happens to fall right smack in the middle of the holiday season. You can read all about it here: From house 2 home.
The other thing that happened is my daughter and her husband, who lived nearby, had a catastrophic incident the other day. The upstairs apartment in the duplex where they were living (they lived downstairs) caught fire and, even though they didn’t suffer any bodily harm, they had to evacuate the home, leaving most of their belongings behind. Thank God they had insurance, so their losses will be minimized. So as you can see, these holidays have been fraught with anxiety.
All in all, however, I am thankful. Things would have been a lot worse, and they are not. Everybody is safe, reasonably happy, and out of danger–both overseas and here.
A merry Christmas to you all!
